Food and Nutrition NIFA-BARD-IIA

The NIFA-BARD-IIA Food and Nutrition program will support U.S. and Israeli researchers/investigators working together with an Israeli company.

The NIFA-BARD-IIA Food and Nutrition program will support U.S. and Israeli researchers/investigators working together with an Israeli company. The program will grant funding for joint research conducted by a consortium of Israeli and American scientists in authorized research centers (investigators) working with an Israeli company that aims to develop innovative food and nutrition technologies. IP, if available, must be owned by the investigators’ institution(s).  Any existing or pending agreements between the NIFA funded US scientists and their institutions with US or other companies are not affected by this funding program.

 The Israeli research group will be subject to IIA guidelines and must be accompanied by an Israeli company. The research teams from both countries will be committed to the NIFA-BARD guidelines. This program will aim to improve food and nutrition, increase the variety and availability of food, and support healthy consumption. (Research Priorities).

This program is integrated in both BARD’s plan to feature Climate-Smart Agriculture and Israeli Ministry of Agriculture’s office of the Chief Scientist’s focus on climate-smart aquaculture for dry climates and support desert farming.

Maximum award: $310,000 or $600,000 for a 3-year grant

The Va’adia-BARD Postdoctoral Fellowship

Designed to identify and support young scientists who will eventually become leaders in agricultural sciences and technologies.
Award duration: One year
Maximum award: $64,000 including travel expenses.

Senior Research Fellowship Program

Promote cooperative agricultural research between established scientists from the United States and hosts from Israel.
Award duration: Two to twelve months.
Maximum award: $3,000 per month plus a onetime allocation of $2,000 for travel.

Graduate Student Fellowship

The program enables Ph.D. students in one country (U.S. or Israel) to travel to the other country to acquire new skills and techniques in their field of study. 
Award duration: $1,500 per month and $2,000 to cover travel.
